Aluminum straightedges/line boards are great for measuring and leveling jobs where you need perfectly straight or even surfaces. They're especially handy for leveling floor joists, but you can also use them to check levels on framing assemblies or as long saw guides, like when cutting building panels.

Aluminum straightedges come in several different sizes with beveled edges. The length you want depends on what you're using it for. With long line boards, you can measure height differences across multiple batten layouts, level them out, and smooth out big batches of floor compound all at once.
