Spacing strings are used to align the joints of tiles and ceramics. This durable nylon string is placed in the tile joints while setting the tiles. Once the tiles are fixed, the spacing string can be removed, leaving all tiles neatly in line. The spacing string is a traditional tool that's been replaced nowadays by tile spacers and lasers.
