Marking tools/snappers are used to mark long straight lines. Tie the string to one end of the line to be marked, then pull the string with the marking tool to the other end of the line to be marked. Secure both ends to the ends of the line to be marked, like with a nail. Lift the string into the air and release. When it snaps down, the marking chalk attached to the string transfers to the surface below and creates a straight long line.
