Position the clamp around the pieces you wanna clamp and pump the trigger with your other hand. Since you can use the clamp easily with one hand, your other hand stays free to guide the pieces. After clamping, you can quickly release it by pressing the quick-release button with your thumb. That way, your other hand is free the whole time you're working.
