Schwan Glue spatula M3 180 mm
The Schwan Glue Spreader is an application tool with a serrated blade that ensures a controlled and repeatable application thickness of adhesives and compounds in floor and wall installations. The spreader is suitable for applications such as ceramic tiles, stone materials, parquet, vinyl planks and textile carpets, as well as for the foundation work stages of various screeds and waterproofing.
The toothing determines the application rate and pattern. There are several toothing profiles to choose from (e.g. U, V or square toothing) and tooth sizes for different adhesives and substrates. A wide range of sizes and blade materials (e.g. stainless steel/steel) allow you to choose the right combination for the application without wasting methods or materials.
The ergonomic handle (wood or composite depending on the model) provides a secure grip and good feel for the substrate, making it easier to maintain even pressure. The rigid, straight-ground blade creates uniform adhesive ridges that improve coverage and air tightness under the tile or coating. The correctly selected teeth allow for the manufacturer's stated consumption and help achieve the required adhesion surface.
Schwan's model range offers variations for different applications: smaller spatulas are suitable for corners and repair areas, wider spatulas for fast coverage of large surfaces. The replaceability of the blade, depending on the model, facilitates maintenance and extends the product's service life.
Intended use:
Tile and stone installations: The serrated blade creates uniform adhesive lines for ceramic and natural stone tiles. The correct serration prevents voids and improves adhesion, especially on large tiles and uneven surfaces. Apply the adhesive with the manufacturer's recommended trowel and check the coverage with a lift test.
Wood and parquet adhesives: Elastic and 1-K/2-K parquet adhesives require a controlled application height. The appropriate tooth size ensures consumption, fills in unevenness of the substrate and maintains the open time of the adhesive. Work in sections to prevent the adhesive surface from film forming before installation.
Vinyl, linoleum and textile carpets: Finer teeth or lower rib height prevent adhesive from oozing out of the joints. Even application reduces bubbling and improves the final surface quality, especially for thin coverings.
Groundwork for water and moisture protection systems: Applying pre-treatment and primer compounds with a straight blade or fine toothed blade supports the uniformity and adhesion of the following layers.

Instructions for use and maintenance (on the packaging/label)
Features:
Serration: U/V/square (model-specific) – Determines application rate and rib pattern; optimizes adhesive consumption.
Tooth size: variant-specific – Adapted to the viscosity of the adhesive, the size of the tile/covering and the evenness of the substrate.
Blade material: stainless steel/steel (model-specific) – Straight edge and rigidity ensure a smooth edge.
Width and length: variant-specific – Narrow models for precise work, wide ones for fast coverage.
Handle: wood or composite (model-specific) – Secure grip and comfortable feel.
Applications: tiles, stone, parquet, vinyl, textile carpets – Controlled application of adhesives and compounds.
Compatibility: cement-based, reactive and dispersion adhesives – Select the toothing according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
Schwan Glue Scraper – instructions for use:
Substrate: Clean and level the substrate. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's moisture content and temperature limits.
Tooth selection: Select tooth size and profile according to adhesive, coating and substrate. Check coverage with a lift test (?80–100% depending on tile type).
Application: Hold the trowel at an angle of approximately 45°; maintain even pressure. Apply the adhesive in parallel strokes and avoid “sawing” which will alter the line.
Open time: Install the covering within the open time of the adhesive. Adhesive left open for too long will weaken the bond.
Cleaning: Wipe off fresh adhesive residue with a product according to the manufacturer's instructions. Dried residue is removed mechanically.
Maintenance: Carefully remove hardened glue from the blade; straighten the blade only if permitted. Store dry and straight.
Warnings:
Incorrect serration can cause poor coverage or excessive oozing – follow the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations.
The blade edge is sharp – wear protective gloves and be careful not to cut yourself.
Work in good ventilation and follow the adhesive safety data sheets (SDS).
Keep the product out of the reach of children.
Do not use a damaged or bent trowel, which will change the application rate.
Frequently Asked Questions, FAQ:
Which toothing should be chosen for large tiles? Generally, a larger tooth size and a square/U-profile will improve coverage. Confirm the choice with the adhesive manufacturer's table and perform a lift test.
Can I use the same trowel for parquet adhesive and mortar? Yes, if the teeth and blade match the requirements of the compound. A separate, larger tooth is often recommended for parquet adhesive.
Why do the ribs fall or the coverage is incomplete? Too small teeth, wrong angle or too long open time. Check the absorbency of the substrate and the adhesive instructions.
How often should the squeegee be replaced? As the blade becomes rounded or the teeth wear, the application rate changes. Replace the squeegee if coverage is not achieved with the same settings.
